Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Mental and physical health are closely interconnected through complex psychological, behavioral, neurobiological, endocrine, and immune pathways. Psychiatric and psychological conditions may influence the onset, progression, treatment response, adherence, and clinical outcomes of physical diseases, while chronic medical conditions can substantially increase the risk of psychological distress, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, and other mental health problems. Understanding these bidirectional relationships is therefore an important component of contemporary patient-centered medicine.
This Special Issue of Actas Españolas de Psiquiatría aims to present current clinical and translational evidence on psychosomatic medicine and integrated approaches to mental and physical health. The collection will focus on interdisciplinary research investigating interactions between psychiatric or psychological factors and physical health outcomes.
Topics of interest include psychosomatic aspects of chronic diseases; depression, anxiety, stress, and physical health; cardiovascular disease; Psychological and psychiatric factors in cancer; neurological disorders and stroke; chronic pain; somatic symptom-related conditions; sleep disorders; stress, inflammation, and neuroendocrine mechanisms; psychoneuroimmunology; brain–gut and brain–immune interactions; treatment adherence; mental health in surgery and rehabilitation; and integrated psychiatric and medical care.
The Special Issue will also welcome research on evidence-based non-pharmacological interventions, including psychotherapy, mindfulness, exercise, nutrition, behavioral interventions, and lifestyle approaches. Digital health, multidisciplinary models of psychosomatic care, biomarkers, molecular mechanisms, personalized medicine, and precision approaches will also be considered.
The collection aims to bring together researchers and clinicians from psychiatry, psychology, psychosomatic medicine, neuroscience, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, rehabilitation, behavioral medicine, and related disciplines. By integrating clinical and translational perspectives, this Special Issue seeks to advance understanding of mind–body interactions and promote evidence-based, patient-centered approaches to integrated mental and physical healthcare.
