Abstract

Cardiovascular disease remains the major causa of death in the western world. Improved management of acute myocardial infarction, and avanced intervention techniques have resulted in a increasing number of the survivors.The cardiac rehabilitation for these individuals is essential.

The aim of comprehensive rehabilitation programmes after cardiac disease, is to assist patients to resume as normal a place as possible in the life of the community. An important goal is to help patients to reach and maintain a cardioprotective lifestyle, quit smoking, adjust diet habits and remain physically active, and besides to reduce the risk of a second adverse cardiac event: decreased morbidity and decreased mortality.
