Abstract

Further specialization in psychiatry is being considered as an «inevitable» trend. Consultation-liaison psychiatry, as a discipline deals with the psychopathological problems of the patients suffering medical diseases, it is placed half way between medicine and psychiatry and from this position needs to face the doctor-patient relationship and the psycological difficulties related to the illness process. All these facts imply a particular set of skills and knowledge needs that ought to be subject of consideration. While the number of publications around this topic in Spanish specialized press is very scarce, this paper seeks to define a set of goals and requirements of the Consultation-liaison rotation, as well as the curriculum that should be considered in the training of the residents.
