Sexual disorders are common among patients with heart disease, ocurring in 38-78% of patients who suffer myocardial infarction.
The significant decrease in sexual activity may be attributed to many factors: age, cardiovascular drugs, poor quality of sexual activity, cardiac symptoms during intercourse, coital death and anxiety or depression.
The dysfunction sexual may improve with adequate counseling , individual treatment and cardiac rehabilitation programs.
Sildenafil has been shown to be efficacious in the treatment of erectile dysfunction of various aetiologies. However, administration of sildenafil , in patients who are concurrently using organic nitrates in any form, is contraindicated.
